Knowing what to stay away from can allow this natural shift much more manageable. Sticking to a healthy, well-balanced diet is a good choice in general, but it’s specifically true for women who are approaching or have just clocked menopause, says Amy Jamieson-Petonic, RD, a nutritionist and exercise physiologist in Cleveland. “A healthy nutrition can make a big change in how you feel with regard to menopause symptoms like mood swings, hot flashes, and exhaustion, as well as bloating and possible weight gain,” Jamieson-Petonic says.
